British Pie Week 2020

There are SO many national and international ‘days’ on the calendar now.  March 2nd – 8th is a whole week dedicated to Pies. Hundreds of entries being delivered to Melton Mowbray, for the all important judging on Wednesday 4th. Everyone keen to see who has baked the best pie.

Last year our Steak Pasty was crowned Champion in the Pasty category. We were incredibly proud as this is the second time our pasty has won, and yes…the Cornish did enter.

With several categories, you can enter any pie (this includes pasties and pork pies) you like, as long as it is completely wrapped in pastry. This means the good old traditional cottage pie, quiche, crumbles and open topped pies …well – they aren’t pies – according to the esteemed judges. But they do know their pies, as the British Pie Awards has been on the calendar for the past 10 years, the judges must have tasted hundred’s!

The Pie is one of the icons of British cuisine. Savoury or sweet, hot or cold, the British eat millions of them every year, served with mash and peas, chips and gravy or just on their own, a pie is a thing of beauty. Good luck to the entrants – we all have our eye on the prize!

Last year, as well as bringing home the Champion award with Silver Cup and rosette, we also won

Silver for our Chicken, Leek & Bacon Pie

Bronze for our Steak & Ale Pie and our Spicy Jack Pie

The Awards are held in Melton Mowbray, the Rural Capital of Food, and hosted by the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association
