Autumnal Eats
Hello September!! š Weāre not quite ready to say goodbye to lighter evenings and warmer spells (we did get a handful!) but the evenings are most definitely drawing in and soon (hopefully not too soon!) thereāll be a chill in the air again.
Time to embrace Autumn in all its glory! One of the best things about this shoulder season has to be the food! šš As the temperature drops, our cravings shift from light and fresh to warm and hearty, and the kitchen becomes a sanctuary of comforting aromas and rich flavours. So, grab a blanket and a hot cup of tea as we dive into the delicious world of autumnal foods that make this season truly irresistible.
PumpkinĀ š
Letās kick things off with the undisputed king of autumn: the pumpkin. This versatile veggie isnāt just for carving scary or silly faces ā itās one of the stars of the seasonās culinary show! From creamy pumpkin soups to spiced pumpkin muffins, thereās no shortage of ways to enjoy this orange wonder. Weād suggest roasting chunks of it with garlic and sage for a delicious side dish to a creamy Chicken and Mushroom pie!
ApplesĀ š
If pumpkins are the king of autumn, then apples are the queen. Whether youāre picking them straight from the tree or buying them by the bagload, apples are at their best around now. Apple pie, apple crumble, apple cider ā the possibilities are endless! The classic pairing of apple with pork is not something to miss⦠talking of which, our Sausage & Apple Rolls are certainly worth a try.

Root VeggiesĀ š„
While pumpkins and apples might steal the spotlight, letās not forget about the unsung heroes of autumn: root vegetables. Carrots, parsnips, swede, and beetroot might not be flashy, but they bring a whole lot of flavour to the table. Roast them with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of herbs, and youāve got a side dish thatās as comforting as it is delicious. Plus, theyāre packed with nutrients, so you can feel good about loading up your plate (win, win)!
Butternut SquashĀ
Butternut squash might not have the same cult following as pumpkin, but itās just as deserving of a spot on your autumn menu. This sweet, nutty squash is incredibly versatile ā roast it, mash it, turn it into soup, or even spiralize it into noodles. One of our favourite autumnal dishes? Butternut squash and Goatās Cheese Pie!

Pears š
Pears often get overshadowed by their flashier cousins, the apples, but theyāre another autumnal delight. Juicy and subtly sweet, pears are perfect for everything from baking to poaching. Pair them with blue cheese and walnuts for a fancy side salad, or bake them into a tart for a pud thatās sure to impress.
Warm, Hearty StewsĀ š„
As the days grow shorter and the nights grow colder, thereās nothing quite like a warm, hearty stew to chase away the chill. Whether itās a beef and ale stew, a coq au vin, or a vegetarian chilli, stews are the ultimate comfort food. Simmering away on the stove (or in the slow cooker!), filling your home with mouthwatering aromas, theyāre like a warm hug in a bowl. Serve them up with a chunk of crusty bread, and youāve got a meal thatās as satisfying as it is comforting.

PiesĀ š„§
Now, shove those scrumptious stews into beautiful crisp pastry⦠and what do you get?! PIES, of course! And what would an autumnal round-up be without our favourite food. Whether youāre a traditional Steak & Ale lover, or a veggie Homity Pie fan now is PIE TIME to enjoy these bakes!
