British Pie Week 2021

British Pie Week is one of the most important - if not THE most important weeks in our year.  Gives us the justifiable reason to bang on about how great pies are. 🤪 A fixture in the ‘Awareness Days’ calendar, British Pie Week starts the first week in March running all week (ha - says it all in the name!) This year 1st - 7th March.

Usually, each year British Pie Week and the The British Pie Awards become one...with hundreds of pie makers up and down the country making and baking their finest, with the aim to win a coveted British Pie Award.

We’ve been taking part in these awards since they started - back in 2009, and have over 30 of these awards for our pies.

However, as with so many events, British Pie Week has also become a victim of COVID this year.  (sorry to mention the ‘C’ word 😏 ). The build up to Pie week normally involves a flurry of activity getting our pies baked, ready to securely and lovingly pack up and send up to Melton Mowbray (long way from Devon!) for the British Pie Awards. But unfortunately not this year. We were contacted some time ago by head Pieman Matthew O’Callaghan, to let us know the bad news….the British Pie Awards wouldn't be taking place in March this year.

GOOD news….they’ve only postponed them - which means we get to celebrate Pie week twice!

YAY! March and September 2021 - We’ve got ourselves a DOUBLE PIE WEEK!

If you’re pie shopping...make sure you’re picky about your pie so here's a few tips to pie buying. While some of us need to rely on home deliveries, our top tip would be the first one - what's in the pie?

  • Read the ingredients! - Be ‘pie-curious’ Avoid fake flavours and additives - if you don't know what it is ...do you really want to eat it?
  • To freeze or not to freeze. Generally pies are ideal to freeze, but some makes have been previously frozen - so will not be suitable to freeze again. Read the packaging.
  • Turn that pie over….and check how big the base of the pie is in relation to the pastry top. You don’t want all puff and no fill!
  • Avoid the ‘bottom shelf’ pies. As a rule - they’re not the greatest quality…

There are plenty of great recipe pies to make your own...but why not treat yourself - take all the pastry pain away with our NEW selection box.

Launched specially for British Pie Week 2021 - this NEW selection box of award winning pies has something for everyone.
