Burns Night: A Toast to Tradition (and Pie!) 🄃🄧

Let’s face it... January can feel like a bit of a post-Christmas slump! The twinkling lights are packed away, the festive fizz is gone, and you’re left staring at that ā€œnew year, new meā€ salad with a serious lack of enthusiasm 🄓

But wait! There’s a midwinter gem to brighten things up: Burns Night!

This Scottish celebration, held every January 25th, is a toast to the life and legacy of poet Robert Burns. Whether you’re a Scot by birth or just by spirit, it’s a brilliant excuse to gather friends, eat well, and raise a glass (or two) 🄃

And if you’ve never celebrated before, don’t worry - Burns Night is as welcoming as it is wonderful!! Plus, we're here to guide you through it, Chunk styleĀ šŸ˜Ž

What Is Burns Night, Anyway? šŸ¤”

Burns Night began in 1801, five years after Robert Burns (the Bard)’s death, as a way to honour his poetry and songsĀ šŸŽ¼

What started as a simple supper with a few pals grew into an annual tradition across Scotland and beyond! Today, it’s celebrated with haggis, whisky, poetry readings, and lots of laughterĀ šŸ˜‚Ā

It really is a true ode to Burns’ love of life and the written word, (as well as the country of Scotland as a whole), if we do say so ourselves!!

From Bagpipes to Modern Bites šŸŽ¼šŸ“

Traditional Burns Night celebrations are steeped in ceremony: bagpipes wail, haggis is paraded into the room, and Burns’ "Address to a Haggis" is recited with gusto!Ā šŸ„‚ The evening is capped off with toasts, songs, and a slightly tipsy rendition of "Auld Lang Syne"Ā šŸŽ¤

But modern Burns Nights? They’re as varied as the Scots themselves! In addition to traditional suppers, you’ll find cosy gatherings, whisky tastings, and even haggis-making workshops on the go!Ā

And the haggis itself? It’s everywhere! Whether it's aĀ gourmet, a veggie, or even aĀ pie version, the 21st century has really taken the Night to new heights!!
