It’s Love Lamb Week – the nationwide celebration of all things British lamb!
Since 2015, the week has been all about shining a spotlight on our brilliant sheep farmers and butchers, reminding us just how good our homegrown lamb and mutton really are.
For us at Chunk, there’s no better way to celebrate than with pies and pasties that do justice to the sheep on our shores!
And while last week we sang the praises of our Moroccan-inspired Lamb Maroc Pasty, this week we’re keeping it closer to home with a pie that’s bold, hearty and proud of what it is:
Why Sheep, Not Just Lamb?
We’re big fans of lamb – it’s tender, sweet and full of flavour. But sometimes you want something deeper, richer, and a little more gutsy. That’s where mutton comes in (that’s lamb over a year old, for those not in the know).
Mutton has been part of British tables for centuries, and it brings that bold, gamey kick that makes our pie such a standout!! We don’t hide behind it or dress it up as anything else. In true Chunk fashion, it's labelled as a mix of lamb and/or mutton!
And we’re proud of it. Because that’s exactly what gives this pie its character!!
What’s Inside the Sheep Pie?
Think of it as a roast dinner in a pie – comfort food at its finest:

West Country lamb and/or mutton – always from our trusted local butchers.

A rich redcurrant gravy that balances sweet, sharp, and savoury in one glorious bite.

Hearty chunks of peas, carrots, and swede.

A touch of mint to tie it all together.

All wrapped up in our thin, buttery shortcrust pastry.
It’s wholesome, it’s satisfying, and it’s the kind of pie that makes you stop mid-bite and say: “Now that’s proper.”
