More Awards - YAY!

It has been a pretty weird year all round and we’re sure most of our fellow traders would agree.

After last year we weren’t too sure whether any of the foodie awards would actually take place.

Usually first on our calendar is the British Pie Awards. These Awards are a national celebration of British Pies in all their varieties and they have been running since 2009. ( happens to be when we won our first Champion Award for our Pasty 😁 ). The Awards are held in Melton Mowbray and hosted by the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie AssociationNormally coinciding with British Pie Week. Now British Pie Week is always the first week of March, but this year they were the first to suffer the problems of COVID.
The team at The British Pie Awards decided to postpone the pie judging until September.

Next for us at Chunk is the Taste of the West Awards - judged around April / May, then winners are announced in August.

Taste of the West is the largest independent regional food group in the UK and does an amazing job of promoting the fantastic local food and drink from our region. That's Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire.
Starting in 1991, their ethos today remains the same as it's always been - quality, integrity and provenance.
These too were postponed in 2021 to September.

Then - local to us in Devon, (the best county!) is Food Drink Devon
Champions of all the fantastic produce that can be found in our wonderful county. Devon is home to so many fabulous food and drink businesses. This small team does an amazing job at
promoting Devon.

Finally - and probably the best known. The Great Taste Awards. (if you watch Andi Peters’ on QVC you’ll hear him say the words ‘Ding Ding’ when a foodie has won a great Taste Award)

Great Taste, based in London and Dorset, is the world's largest food & drink awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food. Each year, thousands of entries are judged by over 400 food and drink experts. All food and drink products entered into Great Taste follow a rigorous judging process with entries passing through teams of judges.  After 86 days of judging in London and Dorset, the results were announced in late September.

All entries are blind tasted by 355 judges including food critics, chefs, restaurateurs, retail buyers, journalists and social media influencers. Regardless of branding or packaging, each product is judged on a level playing field, according to its texture, appearance, composition and of course taste.
These really are the equivalent of the Foodie Oscars!

The team here at Chunk are incredibly proud of the effort all have put in this year. When not all the team were able to be around - the others really stood up and got stuck in.

So it is a true team effort and we're super proud to say in 2021 we won a further 16 Top Awards!
