Now, we know that pies are loved up and down the country, but did you know that there is a definite split between the North and the South when it comes to favourite pie recipes. Apparently the Northerner's favourite is meat and potato pie, while the Southerner’s choose steak and ale.
Research suggests the Midlands is the pie-eating capital of the UK, with many eating at least one a week and Saturday being their favourite day to do so! Saturday!?…. what has happened to #pieday #friday…?
We have a great Steak and Ale pie on our menu - which is one of the best selling pies we make. The recipe is a Chunk secret..yeah well sort of - it's how you’d make a pie at home, nothing groundbreaking - we just do it properly, no fake flavours or additives. We use great ingredients and natural fats like butter - makes a pie taste just great. With some fabulous steak, bathed in an award winning ale. We use Otter Head from Patrick and his team at Otter Brewery, these guys are just down the road from us here in Ottery St.Mary. We’ve used Otter Head for the past 14 years in this particular pie and it really works! Add in some roasted carrots and caramelized red onion into a rich gravy. Wrapped in our buttery shortcrust pastry this pie is pretty sensational!
It's not just us who say this but this pie has won several top awards over the years, including British Pie and Taste of the West Awards
But what will accompany your pie…?
Pie and mash or pie and chips? One of Britain’s hottest debates (ok maybe not). We’re undecided here at Chunk. We love a Pie Tower...
and although Pie and mash runs away with a landslide victory, claiming 6,600 average monthly searches, whereas pie and chips has a mere 320 we do love a plate of pie and chips….dunk a chip in gravy..mmm.
